Part 7- Post Mortem The good news was that, unilaterally, everyone was happy with the way I ran things, and had a lot praise for my GM’ing. I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but it was nice to hear that, especially since I hadn’t done any GM’ing in years. Also, pretty much everyone agreed that, from the very start of the campaign to the end of the scenario that involved Hayashada’s kidnapping, the players were having a great time, and thought that the storylines were great. They especially liked how the Innsmouth campaign was weaved into the overall scheme of things. Not surprisingly, the main gripe with the group was with the Day Of The Beast campaign. It was agreed upon that the storyline got rather tedious and boring at around the time of the Hayashada kidnap scenario. It started not making much sense to some of the players, which I could see as the campaign wore on. It was also agreed by everyone that the “climactic” ending was severely lacking in any sort of tension. All the characters needed to do was cast a spell, roll a ton of dice, and ta-da! Disaster averted! Besides that, another problem I had with the DOTB campaign was the Cthulhu Rogue’s Gallery method of doling out enemies to the characters... a star vampire at one point, Mi-Go the next...an Avatar of Nyarlathotep in one scenario, deep ones in another...it made absolutely no sense, and was a complete mess. This probably led to the group’s sense of confusion...who exactly was behind everything? In hindsight, I now wish I’d taken the time to do some research and do some reading up on the campaign book. Though I didn’t know it when I bought it, I later found a website called RPG.net, which contains a lot of fan-submitted reviews of various gaming products. Naturally, there are a great many reviews of the Chaosium books, and if I had known now what I found out after reading some reviews, I never would have purchased the book in the first place. At any rate, we had concluded our first major campaign (two, in fact). I declared that I was taking a break from being Keeper for a while, so that I could give my brain a rest, and prepare for my next campaign. Horror On The Orient Express is next in line... During my break, I’ve also discovered that little gem called Delta Green, and is my mind reeling with all the storylines I’m conjuring up in my head.... |
